Midnight Silence

I wrote this song/poem a while back. Almost two years ago. Sent it to my friend who sang and recorded it. Not the greatest or smoothest of lyrics, but a constant reminder that I need to write more often.

Midnight Silence by Brian Hughes

While hope fades away
She stares off through the rain
No words or apologies
Can break through the pain

I imagine us, in this same spot
For what seems like forever ago
We giggled through the night, and our smiles interlocked
But now we merely hang suspended in

This midnight silence
A moment not worth remembering
In a day worth forgetting
Midst its empty embrace

Her heavy sighs form clouds
In the frigid winter air
Any attempt to fly through them
Ends in failure and despair

Love finds no meaning
When pure nothingness is defined
What was once confidence begins leaning
And comes crashing down in

This midnight silence
A moment not worth remembering
In a day worth forgetting
Midst its empty embrace

A comfort once stubborn
A solid once strong
A love once full of passion
Like a nymph’s wild song

Ruined by one mistake
Ruined by blind lust
Ruined by a desire
That destroyed Love’s trust
And brought us to

This midnight silence
A moment apocalyptic
In a day full of sorrow
Amongst secrets so cryptic

This midnight silence
A moment not worth remembering
In a day worth forgetting
Midst its empty embrace
