Crumbling

It’s almost like
Digging a hole
But the ground is cold
And your shovel’s a spoon

It’s almost like
Writing a book
But the paper’s wet
And your pen ran dry

It’s almost like
Building a house
But the wood is old
And the foundation’s weak and

Crumbling, crumbling
No feat of strength
Nor any force of will
Can stop you from

Crumbling, crumbling
You refuse to quit
But your fight wears thin
Yet you keep on, yeah, you keep on

It’s almost like
Sleeping all day
But the sheets are rough
And your bed is rock

It’s almost like
Climbing a wall
But the grips are small
And your balance sways

It’s almost like
Giving a speech
But your stage is dark
And your words are just

Crumbling, crumbling
No feat of strength
Nor any force of will
Can stop you from

Crumbling, crumbling
You refuse to quit
But your fight wears thin
Yet you keep on, yeah, you keep on

Pushing through the darkness
Sucking in the poison
Sifting through the bullshit
Only to find nothing

But you keep on, and you keep on

Drinking all the dryness
Polishing your coffin
Hanging from a high limb
As you watch it snapping

So you stay on, just to keep on

Crumbling, crumbling
No life-long friend
Nor a strong drink mend
The inevitable

Crumbling, crumbling
You refuse to quit
But your fight wears thin
Yet you keep on, yeah you keep on
So you keep on, god, you keep on
Just you keep on, oh, you keep on
